We Are Women’s Business Enterprise National Council Certified!

Nantucket Island Marketing (NIM) is extremely happy and proud to announce we are officially a certified member of Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) as of November 2022! Our founder and CEO, Renee Perkins, has felt passionate about leading a team primarily compromised of women since our inception in May of 2020, and as an organization, we are thrilled to be a part of such a reputable, resourceful community.

If you're wondering what this means for NIM, keep reading to find out why this recognition is beneficial for our team and for our clients.

About WBENC

WBENC was first founded in 1997 as a way to recognize, acknowledge, and set a standard for women-owned businesses. As a non-profit organization, WBENC is focused on providing women the tools to innovate, grow, and connect with industry leaders to support their own businesses' development and success.

The organization prides themselves on being, "the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned, controlled, and operated by women in the United States," (WBENC), and with access to thousands of members within the council, there is a strong community of entrepreneurs to connect with.

WBENC certification eligibility

For NIM to be considered as a WBENC member, we had to meet a range of criteria. According to the eligibility requirements for proper certification, we are recognized as (verbatim per the WBENC website):

Certification Eligibility Criteria
  • Majority (at least 51%) ownership by one or more women

  • Demonstrated proof of female management and control of business

  • Unrestricted female control of the business in legal documents and day-to-day operations

  • A woman holding the highest defined title in the company’s legal documents

  • Documented evidence of female contribution of capital and/or industry expertise

  • Status of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident for woman owner(s) constituting majority ownership

Why being certified matters

NIM strongly believes in the WBENC community and the opportunities it allows our business. Being a certified member allows us access to the best-in-class events, programs, and networking opportunities that will help us grow as a team, as well as, better assist our clients. It also opens doors for NIM to compete for government bids on marketing projects, which is important in the digital marketing industry. And last but not least, it grants us the stamp of approval for being a fully certified women-owned business.

If you own or operate a women-owned business and you're interested in becoming certified by the WBENC, learn more about the eligibility criteria and application process to decide if being a member is right for you.
